In Canada?

Any of us north of 49 crowd got their hands on a K-70 yet? If yes, from which retailer?

I'm looking at selling/trading in a couple of K-30 bodies on one or two K-70 bodies... but the timing is kinda tight as I leave for Australia in six weeks and I would like to have at least a few days to play with any new body before heading off.

I've hit the local stores (and websites) and nobody seems to have it in stock yet. Some of the bigger on-line Canadian retailers have the K-70 listed as special order as of tonight (27 July) but none that I can find show "shipping tomorrow." I think it's quite understandable that I don't want to trade/sell my K-30s without the realistic hope that I'll have something to replace them with. Imagine the horror of flying 13+ hours to start a 4 week trip and not having a camera to take with you...

So... anybody got a line on a K-30 body here in Canada?

According to my dealer in Newfoundland, they are in stock at Ricoh, Canada for immediate delivery. I am strongly considering ordering one

My K-70 that was not actually ordered by the store by accident at first but then correctly ordered a week or so ago has just arrived. Going to store to pick it up now!!!

Store didn't require a deposit here...we are so honest in Newfoundland!

It's true... I've only been to Newfoundland for a very brief time... aboard a military flight ...but the people are very nice.

Looking forward to seeing some shots of/by the new toy!

On first inspection I see 2 things immediately. 1. It is a good deal more complex than my K-50 with much more there in available options. 2. It takes pictures of my cat in a dark room without the AF Assist light coming on and with pretty good resolution if you don't go to 100% pixel peeping at ISO 25600 and above where handholding is easy due to the short exposure times available.

A negative over my K-50 is I like the creamy plastic feel of the K-50 case over the more rigid plasticky feel of the K-70. But that is very minor.

The better high ISO performance (and low light level AF?) should be a big plus indeed. Any difference in shutter sound compared to your K-50? What lens were you using?

Shutter sound is pitched lower and is less "tinny" in the K-70 over the K-50 but not a whole lot quieter. The lower pitch is helpful.

No real lens testing yet. Just foolin' around with my 55-300 in the house.

Newfoundland Camera Imaging here matches the Henry's price of $749. Even better their insurance--which is a tad more expensive than Henry's--includes sensor cleanings and loaners as necessary under the warranty. That is a REAL savings. I have already used the sensor cleaning service 3 times for my K-50 (after 2 years) which would have been more expensive than the price paid for the insurance that extends Pentax coverage from 2 years to 5 years. Haven't had to make use of the loaner service, but given some of the stories here a loaner may be a good idea if one gets a lemon.

Some times the cheapest price is not really the cheapest price.

Going out for a hike now, but took this with my old DAL 55-300 while sitting on the front porch last night. It is better than any of my equivalent K-50 pics of the moon.

f10, 1/125s, ISO 100, handheld, 4x crop before reducing to board standards...
