Pentax remote control

Recently, I bought my first remote control shutter release device. It was ridiculously cheap.....(eBay) $6.99 with free shipping from California.... so I was somewhat skeptical, thinking there was a catch to the deal. It was a genuine Pentax product, NIB. But, I thought, WTH.... even IF it is a dud, it's not much of a gamble.

It arrived Monday and after monkeying around with it for a while, I was amazed! I've never had or used such a thing before.... only the ancient shutter release cable. This new gadget not only trips the shutter remotely, it operates the auto focus too! My oh my.... I'm like a kid with a new toy at Christmas! Can't wait for the hummingbirds to show up! I'm gonna' put this thing to work!

Where did you found it so cheap?

Mike, it's a little, tiny thing.... about the size of a thumb drive.... but, I don't see why it would have to be much bigger. It will fit in a Levi's watch pocket quite easily.

If your phone has IR, it works as well. I have the Samsung S5 and it is a handy trigger that I always have in my pocket.

FWIW, I buy the really, really cheap remotes. They don't have zoom, but usually thats not an issue if I'm using a remote anyhow.

I lost the last of my old ones, so just ordered 10 more from Hong Kong for $8 plus change. They're 82 cents, free shipping, and have always worked well enough for my needs since I first started using the things back in my K-x days.

I bought two. I like them because of their shape and I keep thinking I will attach one to my camera strap since this model is designed to fit that. I now have three of them.

Wow. That really is cheap! Why ever even buy a battery when you can get these so cheap.

I also have a Pentax waterproof O-RC1. In case anyone was wondering how waterproof they are I found mine in my pants pocket a few days ago - after it went through the washer AND dryer. Yes it is still working perfectly!

I have yet to ever have one have the battery die. I lose them first. This is also why I won't pay decent money for a small remote - if I ever want to get a fancy remote, it has to at least be the size of a cell phone or something so I don't lose the sucker.
