Memory card capacity

I have a SanDisk Extreme HD Video 16GB which i got with my K-r, when the card empty & I'm using film mode it says i have 10 mins filming time, which isn't much so i went & bought a PNY Performance SDXC 64GB card & this when empty has only 17 mins filming time but quotes 960min on the packaging.

I was expecting a lot more capacity from a card 4 x bigger.

Is this because of PNY isn't as good quality as the SanDisk?

Thanks

I believe time amount depends on settings for the movie. If you're using the highest, such as 1080p compared to 780p, you won't get as much video saved to the card.

I'll have a look

But still the camera is on the same setting for both cars but the 64gb is only 7mins long then the 16gb at 10mins

Shouldn't it be 4x = 40min

I am pretty sure that this is related to the fact that there is a maximum file size of 4GB on FAT32 file partitions which I think is what the DSLR's all use. Depending on the quality setting that will determine the max length each file can contain. Your older card empty should give the same length maximum since the limit is file based and the file size is smaller than the card size.

Why DSLR's can't close one file and open another automatically and link them I don't know.

Yup, there's a per-file limit (4Gb).
