So Wrong It's Right - Flawed Photos That Just Work

We've all taken photos where we messed up one or more technical aspects. In fact, some of us do that more often than not . Sometimes, though, the mistakes lead to the best photos. Here's the thread for those shots that you duffed in just the right way.

I'll kick things off with a photo taken in Rome that ended up being very, very soft. I'm not sure how I ended up missing the focus by such a wide margin, but somehow it just seems to work. I don't title all my photos, but this one I decided to call "Longing":

Missed focus on a Pelican dancing the Zorba in a cafe bar in Mykonos last year

Tried to hide it by giving it a 70's postcard feel...

This is what can happen when you print on the wrong side of the photo paper...

The camera nailed the focus on her eye... and then I leaned back as I took the photo, botching it. I still love this photo and I think the out of focus-ness might actually make it better than it would have been otherwise. Maybe. ; P

Accidental double exposures! Taken with a Pentax ZX-L and a Nikon F100!

I love it! There's a pixie-ish mischievousness that's enhanced by the image being out of focus.

This was a heavy crop from an (mid seventies) old colour negative which I converted to BW. The film did not age well but I do like the picture expression,

Thank you! She's pretty mischievous a lot of the time anyway

We'd recently arrived in Paris after a long overnight train ride from Venice. None of us slept well in the train car, and all the adults (me, my wife, our best friend and my mom) were exhausted, but my son, being the ball of energy that he is, wanted to go exploring. After a short breather, we made our way to Notre Dame. We just wanted to see it from the outside, with plans to visit it properly the next day.

We strolled around and I took a handful of mediocre photos around the building. Then the bells started, and my son just froze. Anyone who knows the boy knows he is the living personification of kinetic energy. But he just stood there, spellbound. It took me a second to pull focus with the camera. In that time, I swear, he just started to vibrate - almost as if the bells were resonating through him. A second later, he was hopping, skipping, pacing and running, all at the same time somehow.

In no way is this a great photo, but it captures the moment better than anything I could have done intentionally.

That's the, "Trust me...I wouldn't get us trouble, would I?" look going on there.

My favourite long exposure misadventure....

I have a caption in mind but you'll have to guess what it might have been.
