Just got here this evening, I'd like to thank everyone who voted.

And thanks to VoR for doing this contest, it was interesting. Maybe it will become a tradition.

The picture...

I always like to go out on foggy days, you never know what you'll get and sometimes you get some excellent shots. This one has gotten more positive comments than probably any other picture I've ever taken.

The picture itself was taken at a lake in north Louisiana on a cold winter day with a heavy fog, lots of Great Blue Herons and Great White Egrets always there, and on foggy days it was a favorite place to go. I had no idea what would turn out to be a good shot, I just took shots of whatever looked like a picture. Sorry I can't explain that, I've been doing it for many years. I look around and something strikes me as a picture. This shot was taken after the fog started to thin a little, with a 200mm M42 lens on a Pentax K-x. I took more than a dozen at different settings, this is one of a couple that came out very nice.

I was kind of surprised, I thought a couple of others had a really good chance. The Pheasant, for example was really nice, the Black Crowned Night Heron is gorgeous, and I really liked the barn in the snow shot, can't remember the name. Several really good efforts here, and a couple I thought would easily get more votes than mine. I was a little disappointed we didn't get more votes overall, maybe if this turns into a regular thing it will get more attention next time. I voted for myself for obvious reasons, but if I hadn't entered, I think I would have chosen the Black Crowned Night Heron. r0ckstarr did a very nice job of that shot.
