Show us what Nik can do!

Now that the Nik Collection of post-processing is 100% free, I figured I'd start a thread where we can share our results with it!

I've been using Nik for awhile now and it is by far the most valuable program after Photoshop that I use. It is absolutely amazing, it reduces the time needed to post process photographs. It does it all!

These were a few of my "Single in December" challenge entries, captured on the Q7 with a 35mm CCTV lens and processed in Nik (with Lightroom 6 also)...

Not much of a plug-in user, just playing really.

Now if Adobe would just add lens profiles for the FA lenses...

I got sucked into the, "everything must look ye olde" when I first got the NIK collection. I use them much more sparingly these days. I fear we are now about to see a glut of old film effect photos. And it can get very Instagramy.

These are standalones, yes?

I followed the link. I am, I must admit, far more excited about the news they are concentrating on mobile platform editing. I long for the day when my Galaxy Tab A's version of Snapseed can handle and convert Raw files. Right now it doesn't, much to my dismay, because it's easy and quick to use and 90% of what I need. All it needs is an invert filter, decent white balance handling and raw processing and I'm good to go on trips away.

Nice job, everyone! I have also been using Nik for a while. I don't use it as much as I used to, but it is helpful when you want to give your photo just a little bit more drama or "pop". You can get carried away, and I have been accused of doing that, but I still find it fun and useful at times. Glad they are offering it for free now, that's quite a bargain!

These are a few of my favorites.

They're supposed to be used as plug-ins via Lightroom and Photoshop, although I understand some people use them stand-alone with limited success and some gotchas. See this link for info.

EDIT: Actually, I forgot that HDR Efex Pro 2 is a stand-alone, although I use Edit In in Lightroom with it if I'm not processing multiple files. But the others are plug-ins...

I'll miss not having the product evolve, I reckon. Silver Efex Pro via Lightroom:

I wish Google was going to continue investing in this. I think desktop applications are passe now that mobile everything is here, but the reality is that desktops are still significantly more powerful with regard to serious editing compared to even a Surface Pro. I use the Color Efex and Silver Efex components quite a bit for landscape and black and white editing.

This is a before and after Color Efex photo taken with the K3 and DA 15 limited.

Pre-editing.

After Color Efex Pro (used a digital GND, detail enhancer, and contrast)

Silver Efex Pro is nice too...

I posted this elsewhere, but this is a shot processed in Color Efex and also in HDR Efex.

Pre-edited shot.

Color Efex Pro Edit.

This is a fairly simple example of a shot taken earlier today...

Firstly, cropped in LR6:

... and then processed in Nik Color Efex Pro 2 to get an effect similar to an image in an old book:

I played a bit with dfine and those "control points" are very useful to tweak precise areas of an image.
For me, it performs better than Topaz DeNoise.
No idea about the rest of the plug-ins yet but I sure will spend some time with them and see if I will use them or not.
Looking forward to more amples here so I can learn a bit more.
