NYcity newbie

Looking to get into getting a Pentax 645z. Live and work in Brooklyn NY as a photographer. So I'm a newbie in medium format world of digital. Not a newbie to the digital world. Shot film 6x6 for many years. Looking to forward to learning and sharing info here. Still a window shopper for a 645 format for now. So off to ask some questions about bodies and glass.

Welcome to the forums!
Only strafed NYC, but always found it a tad intimidating.
Same as the 645, way out of my league... so I am saying hi, just don't ask me anything.

Welcome, I sure the guys over in the medium format section of the forum, will have you parting with your cash for 645Z fairly soon.

I was actually unfamiliar with the standard definition of strafe before your post prompted me to look it up! The definition I'm accustomed to is the gaming one, where strafing is side to side motion and is handy for maneuvering about, especially in trying to disorient an opponent or in maintaining one's distance from them while still keeping an eye on them. I guess with that definition in mind strafing could be used to mean to engage with something or someone in a very peripheral and wary way.

Interesting. The definition I'm familiar with is more like "attack repeatedly with machine gun fire or bombs from low-flying aircraft", which is why I thought it was an odd term to describe one's experience of a city ...

But an interesting one, for sure!

Whoops, maybe I didn't get that one quite right. But I do suppose either definition can work. Sidle in or hit it repeatedly until your head explodes.
Sorry. I do like interesting words but not a native English speaker, so it's bound to get... interesting sometimes.

Hmm. What did I mean to say? Only touched it slightly? Oh... grazed! Thanks google. But sometimes I did walk sideways there...

Welcome!
I just returned from three weeks in New York with my 645N.
You live in a beautiful, photographer-friendly city!
