Hi!

Ahoy! I'm new to this, and honestly had no plans to get into SLR or DSLR photography (it's something I always thought was "pretty cool" but was never interested in doing myself.)

However, my father in law, who is awesome but more than a little bit cunning, figured out a pretty good scheme to get more pics of his grandkids. At first I thought he forgot his K20D when he was last visiting, but no, now it's mine. And now I have 3 lenses.

Anybody else doing the photo-nerd thing on Linux? Rawstudio/lensfun don't know about this A 70-210mm F/4, apparently.

Welcome to the Forums. You have been given a great start with that gear. There will be plenty of info here on how to get the best from it.

Well here's the father in law in question, along with some strange tiny human thing that I found.

I absolutely have; I need to practice more with the 40mm because the 21mm is just so easy to take good photos with!

Welcome to the forum! That's some great kit to be starting out with. The DA40 and DA21 Limited lenses are among the best!

Luckily with the zoo nearby I can get out the urge to keep adjusting something until I get what I want with pics of animals, and just hit the darn shutter button when he's in focus!

At least, that's the habit I'm trying to develop

Oh, he is. And I will I've got a bunch of DNGs that I need to sort through from his brother's 4th birthday party at the zoo, I'll post them as I get through them. Switching jobs soon, so I'll have a lot more time for camera-nerditry (a 160 mile round trip commute hasn't been good for motivation as far as hobbies go).

That birthday party is how I got the 70-210mm lens; I just mentioned to the aforementioned cunning father-in-law "now I want a zoom lens" (I spent half an hour trying to get a decent picture of a duck from too far away), next thing I know I had a tracking number. He really screws up the time-honored tradition of disliking ones inlaws.

As long as both fish or horses are not involved... you'll be OK.
