What lens, aperture and shutter speed in this example please?
It's quite likely that you either have a back focus/front focus problem if you are using AF.
Have you tried careful manual focus to see if you can resolve the sharpness problem that way (if this cures it, you have an AF problem).
Also, what are your image settings? If everything is set to low contrast/soft, etc, then you will need to do some post processing.
