Are you scanning film or working with digital color then converting it? I like this technique a lot, particularly the first image. Are you using the duotone feature in Bridge, or is this Lightroom, or something else?
I've been converting color into B&W and then adding duotone in PS3(see below) but this might be a better way to go.
