I'm having a bit of a confusing issue with lightroom 5. I use a garmin GPS to geotag my photos. I load the track log off the gps into lightroom and use the map module to geo tag my pictures.
When I go into grid view and look at the location metadata sometimes the town, province, country is filled in sometimes it is not. If I select another picture and then return to the first, the data may appear or may not. When I search for photos taken in a specific location ie town they come up, but there is also the same number of pintures listed with unknown location info. It appears that lightroom is filling in the information, just not displaying it. Has anyone else experienced this and do you know of a fix. I am not running the newest version of lightroom 5. The day I tried to download it my internet connection kept kicking out on me, so adobe may have fixed this.

When you are seeing the town, province, country, etc. in the metadata in Lightroom, and that information is greyed out, that is derived information that Lightroom has calculated by reverse geocoding the GPS data.

I've noticed that if I edit a sublocation for geocoded data, the derived information disappears. I'm not exactly sure how to get the derived data to be written to the metadata.

I haven't edited any of the data or entered any info into the sub location field. It seems like this is random whether or not it displays the reverse geocoded information. I was able to download the update and it didn't make any difference.

It's not really a big problem since when I sort by location data the pictures are still displayed. It's just kind of weird.
