Cheap (or free) audio mixer?

Does anyone have experience with Audacity, a free download for audio mixing? I just need something quick and easy for cross fading audio (music) for a slideshow. Free is best, but cheap is ok!

Thank You!

Yes, don't even think twice Audacity is awesome. Download it now. Mess around with it. You will be pleased. I could be wrong but I think you can bring video into the program as well to make your fades that much easier. Of course, I would imagine a photo program would have similar capabilities, or iMovie.

A new version of Audacity was released yesterday. I use it all the time. Works wonderfully.

+1 to everything said above. Best easy & free program there is. It is updated quite regularly. Easy to export recorded audio to mp3 for example.

I had an older copy of Sound Forge that I used for years until I found out about Audacity. Honestly I like Audacity better and it's a lot more affordable to upgrade. :P I've been using it for several years now. It does 90% of what the so called pro tool does and is absolutely worth the download, IMHO. Much simpler to use besides...
