Yes, libraw is apparently a fork of dcraw. They have the same ancestry, but have diverged, and have different bugs.

You might be interested in using dcraw to process the four pixel shift DNGs to four linear TIFF. Google is our friend in this regard, but the page linked below shows the way in an easy-to-digest manner.

ExifTool may be used to salvage metadata.
Steve
I really want something scriptable. I have time on my hands (unemployed, unfortunately) and want to write a plug-in for Lightroom Classic to help deal with HDR RAW and PixelShift RAW files processing. First version will just tag those files by calling Exiftool, so I can locate them, and process them externally, since Lightroom doesn't process Pentax HDR RAW files at all (uses first frame only) and doesn't do motion correction for PS files.
exiftool has some limited support for PS files. It's at last possible to identify them, but there are no details on the various exposure values for each frame that I could find. Maybe I didn't look hard enough (probably). exiftool doesn't appear to identify Pentax Raw HDR files. Again, I may not have looked hard enough.
Once I get the tagging done properly, I would also like my plug-in to extract to extract the 3 or 4 DNGs from these files. DCU 5 does it for HDR files, but sadly isn't scriptable at all. It won't extract frames from PS files, though. And there is probably no software that will work on split frames from PS files, either, so this is less critical to do.
I played with RawTherapee yesterday afternoon and PS files, but couldn't figure out how to extract the 4 frames as unprocessed DNGs (not processed TIFFs) in the GUI. I have to say I really can't stand the user interface of RawTherapee. Tiny icons on a 4K display that make no sense to me. I managed to increase the font size, but the icons still don't speak to me. And there are no menus as in Lightroom. RawTherapee is open-source though. If it has the ability to extract individual frames, I would like to link it with my plug-in. Suspect this is no easy task binding Lua code with C/C++, though, much less debugging. Do you know if RawTherapee can extract frames from Pentax HDR RAW files, like Pentax DCU can ? Or just PS files ?
