Problems with pentax raw converter DCU 5.5.1 (K-3 K-1)

Hello,
I'm having problems with DCU 5 (digital camera utility 5) on two Computers. It will not start.
You can see the following behavior: The program starts. The "red splash screen" appears and disappears after 2 seconds. That's it.
Tentatively uninstalled Spybot Search & Destroy and Avira antivirus software: no change.

Starting with the K3 and the S-SW140 the SW could be properly installed, each 64 bit variant, but it doesn't work. Even with the latest version S-SW162,which has come with the K1, it is the same behaviour.
I've got the last update yesterday Version 5.5.1 the same problem

My systems:
Windows 7 64 Bit Build 7601
Intel Core i7-860
16 GB memory 32 GB Swap, 12GB genuine RAM free
C: drive operating system, conventional HD 48 of 128 GB free
D: drive data plate Conventional HD 2 TB of 3 TB free

Because CS6 does not support the K1 - and will not in the future, I need an alternative to the RAW development especially Pixel Shift is capable.

Maybe someone can help.

Try a combination of compatibility settings, such as "run as administrator" or "run with windows xp sp3".

Also, try changing your computer's locale to the same language as the software. I ran in to a similar issue when I tried installing the Japanese Theta software with an en-US locale.

Thanks first.

@OoKU. I've got the 5.5.0 with the K1. I tried this one first, and got the update because the 5.5.0 failed.

@Adam. Installations are allways as administrator - therefor run as admin ist not an option. The installation process asks for the language my machine works as german the settings for dcu are german. The idea with compatibility mode i'll check this afternoon (MEZ-Time).

Perhaps uninstall and scour the disk for any crud left behind. Plenty of space... Virtual memory stars unclear, how much free?

Hello Jörgens!

Try to make a default installation of DCU by Windows command prompt. In this way the setup program will not ask for any input during the installation process. Neither ask for the old CD etc. This is the way to do it:

In Windows Vista and later, if you press <SHIFT> key and right-click on the /BIN folder inside S-SW140 , you get an extra option called "Open Command Window Here". Then make a silent installation - an installation where none of the dialog boxes you normally see are displayed - by writing
>setupXX.exe /s
and press ENTER. Replace XX with with the right number for your system (64).
"_/s" tell windows to make a Silent Installation.

I'm not familiar with CS6, but I thought it used ACR?

ACR v9.5.1 now supports the K-1 and is available for direct download:

Since the version 5.4.2, DCU gave problems to a number of PF members: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/32-digital-processing-software-printing/3...y-5-4-2-a.html.

I had numerous crashes with v. 5.4.2 (Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bits). I tried today the version 5.5.1 (Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bits) and I had some problems: very slow, almost crashed twice, cannot do batch processing ... I reverted to version 5.4.1...

I advise all PF members with problems using DCU to report and share their problems.

I just installed DCU 5.5.1 on Windows 7 Pro 32bit. Seems to run with no problems, however all I have are RAW files from my K10D. I'm downloading some K-1 DNG files now.

Appears to run with no problems.

I will reboot into my Win10 64bit pro and install the 64bit version.

Please note running an install as administrator (right click on EXE and pick Run as administrator) is not the same as logged in with administrator rights and running the install.

Ok, in Win10 64bit Pro. I installed PDCU 5.5.1 64bit. No problems other than it seeming a bit slow compared to 32bit in Win7. More memory would no doubt help.

I would recommend backing up and deleting the Pentax folder in Users->username->Appdata->Local folder. If the DB or older files in there are corrupt or incompatible this can cause lockups. PDCU will recreate the folders and DB files as needed.

Appdata is a hidden folder. You will need to change your folder/file viewing options in Windows in order to see this folder.

I'm happy about the Information that the DNG converter now supports K-1 - but i think - but don't know yet - the PSR Files aren't supported, even in ACR 9.5.1

Yes this is correct, but because they want to push their Modell of renting they stopped support for CS6 now only CC customers will get updates.

From Adobe: UPDATE July 28, 2015 Please note that as of July 2015, we’ve announced that ACR 9.1.1 will be the last version of ACR to support Photoshop CS6. Please read the following post for more details. Camera Support for CS6 | Adobe Customer Care Team
