I'm curious to see and try the new mouse. There's an Apple store about 30 minutes from where I live. I might have to stop by this weekend. I hope they have them in the store. I'm curious to see how the 16:9 screen looks in person.

Decked out, the top end iMac runs about $3800 US

Not with a fairly comparable monitor you can't - not even close.

The 27" iMac is actually a solid value. I'm impressed.

There's no way you could come close to half the cost, sure you could save some money, but then you can't run OS X, so is it really worth it anyway?

Can't wait to get mine!

Paying a little more for it being built for you and not having to use Windows ain't all that bad.

If I could wrap my head around using a white Macbook, those new ones look pretty slick.

It would be nice if this thread could be about the new Macs, instead of yet another insipid OSX v. Win debate.

the proposed setup is about 4000 USD

RE: MOnitors

sorry guys, i'm having a hard time buying the "as good as it gets" thing about mac monitors when you have Ezio monitors going for 1500-4000 dollars.

You could indeed.

Oh, and if you want to chuck an IPS monitor on it...Dell 2209WA IPS monitor, which sells for $400 Australian. Probably cheaper in the States.

The Cinema displays are quite good. Eizo makes good ones, also. High-end monitors have a small pool of panels from which to choose, so in terms of ultimate IQ there often isn't a whole heck of a lot of difference between quality makes. Much of the differential is in "supporting" electronics, ergonomics, and the granularity of adjustment options. Of course, these can make a sizeable difference.

Yeah, but the Dell is nowhere near as large nor as high-res as the Apple monitor.

the ram in this imac is at best, ddr3 with 1033mz speed

check out this baby, Canada Computers - Memory > Desktop Memory > DDR3 2000 PC3-16000+ : Mushkin XP3-16000 DDR3-2000MHZ 6GB (3x2GB) Triple Channel Kit XP Series Cas 8-9-8-24 (1.65V) 240pins (998731).

try shoving that in your system, ohh wait, you cant.

the video card is a 4850... its like 130 bucks, there are monster video cards out there right now that would turn this into dust, not to mention that you dont have crossfire for the hardcore gamer. (hell you cant even play games on the mac.. )

Mac's are a nice package that you buy and forget about it, the proverbial "auto mode", it works and you're happy

except that the PC world still offers much greater potential if you're willing to go far enough.
