Just for fun ...

Here's a fun little project just in time for the holidays and one that's been around for a long time.

It's a DIY bokeh filter. I cut out discs from black construction paper to fit my UV filter and cut out a shape in the center (about 15mm). I use another UV filter to hold the disc in place. The shapes are only limited by your imagination and cutting skill (I used a exacto knife).

Works best using a lens with a large aperture. I'm using a Pentax FA 50mm f1.4 .

You can buy a bokeh filter set online for about $25, but this method will run you pennies for a sheet of paper. I've included some sample images. Looks like I need to clean up the round design a bit.

This is too much fun, I guess the cutting possibilities are endless. Will definitively try it.

Nice work!

If you know anyone who is into scrapbooking you could raid their shape punches, especially for complicated shapes. Much easier than an exacto knife!
