SMC Pentax 67 / SMC Pentax-6x7 45mm F4 on the 645Z or 645D?

Just wondering if the SMC Pentax 67 / SMC Pentax-6x7 45mm F4 is a lens worth adding to your 645Z kit?
How does it compare with the SMC Pentax 645 35mm on the 645 cameras?
Thanks.

Perhaps this post can answer half of your question:

What did he [DigLloyd] have to say about the manual 55mm ?
Again, as expected and totally consistent with what forum members said here, the P67 55mm is stellar, but the P67 45mm is soft out of the central 2/3 area.

The 45mm is well know by most users for being a very sharp lens. I would be a little skeptical of a short thread that had very few replies and one point of view. Even if the user has a copy which is soft towards the outside, the 645 only is going to use the the center 75%. The 645 35mm is also a very sharp lens. I would consider the the cost and feature difference. You can get the A or FA versions of the 35 while the 67 you will be shooting all manual, The 645 35mm A and the 67 45mm will be relatively comparable in cost making the choice pretty easy to seek out the 35mm.

That being said if you got a good deal on a the 45mm 67 I'm sure you would be quite happy with it.

This thread is probably slightly more helpful that that other one..

It is easier to test sharpness on a digital camera than a scan of film. When scanning, getting the film really flat is scanner dependent.

However, that was member leping said of DigLloyd's review of the lens . If you don't trust his reviews and experience then no point talking any further.

The SMC 45mm may be sharp but it is not known as the sharpest. I've compared the Mamiya 43mm to my Pentax 45mm and I give an edge to the Mamiya. But again, I have a difficult time making that assessment on film due to flatness issues out on the corners when I scan.

The 6x7 45mm Needs to be stopped down to f/8 to f/11 to produce good Picture Quality on the 645D. The 45-85mm 645 FAis better, for example. And the 645 SMC-A 35 is much better.

Just because a lens does well on film ( like the 45mm) is no guarantee it will perform the same on digital. The 75 Takumar and 55-100 zoom are sharper in the corners, at least on film.

I did not like the results of the P67 45mm , the 645 A 45mm, or the 645 FA 45-85mm , on the 645D. I really hope ricoh brings an excellent wide angle zoom to market soon.
