Toxina SZ-X 630 60-300mm on DSLR

Hi,

I just got this lens and I tried to mount it on a K mount DSLR and it does not turn, however it does mount fine on a K mount film camera.
I noticed there is a longer lip in the mount.
Are there any modification I can do to be able to mount it on a K5?
Please fin attached pictures.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks

That long shield interferes with the SDM terminals on modern cameras. They did not exist when this lens was made. Many folks have either removed the shield completely or taken it off and modified it with a dremel tool so that it works.

Here is an older thread that discusses the same problem: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/186451-vivitar...ing-k-5-a.html

I did remove the two screws and the shield, it works perfect.
I just have one concern, are there any risks to the camera or the lens in removing the shield?

Thanks

Hi dltorre,

I believe that the shield is supposed to protect the lens' aperture actuation lever and to help prevent any dust inside the lens' mechanism from getting to the back element. It's really not necessary if you take a bit of care fitting the lens to the camera body and always protect the back of the lens with an appropriate back cap when not mounted on the camera. If you feel uncomfortable leaving the shield off completely, then grind it down as shown in the last post from the thread linked bt jatrax
