Hi All & a quick question.

Hi, I have been shooting pictures most of my life, but have just bought my first Pentax. I was blown away by the 645Z, bought one and I am now trying to build-up a workable system.

My question is that when I look at the Pentax 645 Medium Format Lens reviews, most lenses (not all) have an icon which warns that an adapter is needed to mount on a DSLR. Since the 645Z is a DSLR, does this mean that it needs an adapter for those lenses? I think that's no the case, but I would like to verify before I purchase one.

Thank you,

John

Technically the 645z is a DSLR but I think in common usage it would be referred to as a "digital medium format". I am not 100% sure what the "adapter" icon there means, maybe one of the mods can help out.

However, 645 lenses can be used on k-mount DSLRs with an adapter so I am going to guess that is what they mean.

Anyway, all of those 645 lenses will work on your 645z, and also (with an adapter) on k-mount DSLRs.

Can you link to a specific lens review? Maybe what is meant is that K-mount DSLRs need an adapter to use these lenses (which they do, but the 645D, 645Z are not K-mount)

adapters & Lenses

I think we are all in agreement and now thinking of ordering an SMC Pentax-FA 645 120mm F4 Macro from a Japanese store on eBay for about $750.00. This would be to complement the 55/f2.8 DFA that I bought with the camera. Any thoughts?

Also, I don't know how to attach to link? Just paste it in text?

Thx.

John

The icon being referred to is on the features summary. It is the first yellow triangle symbol next to the lenses in the attached screen capture.

The overview text on the top of the page states:
QuoteQuote:
These lenses are designed specifically for Pentax's line of medium format cameras. They can be adapted onto K-mount DSLRs via an adapter, but this is typically not convenient as 645 lenses are much larger physically.
