What exactly are you doing and what is happening when you try it?

The Manual isn't all that helpful, but Catch-in Focus is only usable with manual focus lenses (or, presumably, AF lenses with a manual focus ring, set to MF on the camera, or set to MF on the lens if it has a separate AF/MF switch). What type of lens are you using?

I just got bunch of old lenses like Vivitar series 70-210mm 2.8-4 A komine, Kiron 75-205mm, Takumar 135mm 2.5 and Pentax M 28mm 2.8.

Or does CIF only work with lens that have AF/MF switch?

...and then only if the lens has a conductive base. Usually this means bare metal. This was not the case until the most recent generation of Pentax bodies and is a pain in the rear for those of us who shoot with lenses having painted mount faces (most M42 lenses) and who would like to use CIF.

The options are:
  • Add a bit of foil to short the data pin
  • Sand the paint/anodizing from the lens in the area of the data pin

CIF should work with those lenses. The M/F switch just stops the iris diaphragm down and has nothing to do with focus.
  • Set focus mode to AF-S (AF-C or AF-Auto will not work)
  • Edit: AF-S must be configured for Focus Priority (menu C-15)
  • Set AF on body to "On"
  • Confirm that shutter will not release when subject is not in focus
  • Confirm that shutter will release only when the subject is in focus

Oh, yeah...AF-S must be set to focus priority, not release priority (menu C-15).
