Mystery Cable

Folks,I got this cable with a camera I bought and it doesn't fit any connector I've seen. Maybe one of you can tell me what it fits.

Thanks in advance!!

HDMI on one end, Video on the other. Looks to be a conversion cable. HDMI to Video.

Thanks - I kinda thought it might be an HDMI connector, but I couldn't find any on-line photos to verify. It now appears that ?all? the current HDMI cables are flatter and wider, so I'm *assuming* this is an older one???

Do you know of any current uses for it?

Thanks!

That's an HDMI to YPBPR component (analog) video cable. It allows you to connect older devices (like an LCD projector) that don't have HDMI to HDMI. You might need a converter box too, depends on the devices.

It looks like a Firewire IEEE-1394 DV cable. HDMI looks a little bit different.

It's not HDMI or Firewire. It looks like Mini DisplayPort.

gah! it's a cable snake! It disguises itself as a cable, but devours people in their sleep. That last closeup catches his teeth ready to extend. Be careful!

I'd thought it might be firewire, but all the firewire cables I looked at were either 9, 6 or 4 pin - this cable is 5 pins. And the FW cable connector has raised edges on one side and this guy is flat on all the sides.

So, I'm going with an older HDMI cable - but thanks for your input - it made me re-think and re-look!!

Definitely not firewire, it's not even shaped like a firewire plug

Doesn't look like any iterations of HDMI either

Closest match is mini display port, thunderbolt, or mini DVI. I don't think it's an exact match for anything, so it's probably proprietary

Those are male plugs on the HDMI photos you're showing, the female plug is different. Like this one:

Does it plug into the camera? What camera is it. Look up the specs.

I hate to admit what I bought (begins with an N) - it has the typical tiny USB port and round power plug - nothing remotely like the cable.

Oh well, guess it's going to remain a mystery for now. I plan on taking the cable to Fry's to physically compare it.

Appreciate all the help - when I figure it out, I'll post the results.
