K-500 shutter count 8459...

Hello everybody,
I'm new here, and want to ask my first question:

i'm decided to buy K-500, but seller told me( after one week waiting) that no new in stock (instead we booked a new one), but have one used shutter count 8459. They offer a little discount, but have I any guarantees with K-500? My photography is amateur, just for my family. Is there good choice? Waiting for advice, thanks

A shutter count of only 8,459 is nothing outrageous. Anything under 10,000 usually suggests a camera has not suffered particularly heavy use. It is nonetheless worth asking some general questions. For example:

Does the body have any marks or scratches?
Does the LCD screen have any marks or scratches?
Are there any dead, stuck or hot pixels on the camera's sensor?
Are there any dead or stuck pixels on the LCD screen?
And if you are buying it with a lens - what is the condition of the glass?

The K-500 is a perfectly capable camera for amateur photography. It may be worth hunting around to see if you can pick up a K-50, though, as both tend to sell for fairly similar prices. The two cameras are almost identical, except the K-50 has focus point indication in the viewfinder, as well as weather-resistant sealing. Both of these features are worth having, in my view.

kinda depends upon what they are asking for this used K-500; if it's $300 or more, consider a new K-50...

10,000 is a year of fairly steady use. At least that is what I put on my K-3 in the first 14 months. The K-500 should be priced as a used camera, though what that value would in your market is difficult to say. As noted above, prices on the generally nicer K-50 have been quite low lately and may be the better deal.

It may be ok for your area. In the US, you can buy a new K50 for under $300.

A little expensive compared to US pricing ($379), but probably about the same if you consider international shipping costs and/or tax.

It's a much better camera than the K-500.

if I'm not mistaken, the K-500 is identical to the K-50 except for the WR seals and availability of the case in colors, no?

You're right. I was under the impression it lacked other features besides the WR and the electronic level. Thanks for pointing that out.

For Europe, €419 seems like a very good price. In the UK, Sweden and Norway, this kit generally sells for the equivalent of €500-€555.

Although the K-50 is not hugely different from the K-500, these features are worth having in my view, although obviously it depends on how Toxic is going to be using the camera.

K-50 and WR lens vs used K-500 without lens - take K-50!
You get WR lens, new WR body, built-in electronic level and spot focus indicators in viewfinder - it's for 100 EUR!

High for the US, but a very good price for Europe. SRS in Britain is asking £395.00 (about €550) for the same package.
