Cactus V6 Flash Compatibility -- Profiling Successes and Failures
Posted By: Class A, 05-13-2014, 08:34 AM

If you have successfully profiled a TTL flash with the V6, please post about it here.

Information whether remote control of power levels is working is welcome for all flash systems supported (Canon, Nikon, and Pentax) and any flash brand.

If you attempted to profile a flash and it did not work, please post about it here as well. Preferably, elaborate what the hurdle was (e.g., did not test as compatible, did not recycle quickly enough, ...).

I'll updated this first post regularly so that it will stay a summary of the experiences. Hence it will be easy to see which flash models are the awkward ones that refuse to play with the V6. I cannot image there will be many models that won't work, but let's see.

Compatible: (in addition to the predefined profiles; see the review for the original list of predefined profiles)
  • Pentax AF200T
(the respective profile may also be used for the AF280T which on its own does not support profiling due to the lack of a sufficient number of manual levels.)

Don't Work:

Hello,

Just a quick post to let you know I have profiled a Metz 48 AF-1. I must admit I didn't even try the 50 AF-1 profile. I have not measured my profile but a quick test looks about right.

I've had a tough time profiling the Godox v860n, the receiver continues to give errors or saying the the unit can't be profiled, anyway, sick of it, I tryed the sb800 and sb900 profile.
Well the flash doesn't give any indication on the display of the power change like the v860c (units are slightly different), but the output does clearly change so it works, if the light values are reliable I am not able to measure however since I don't have a light meter but it looks like a workaround

i can confirm the sigma 610 dg super does NOT work for profiling unfortunately.
What exactly does that mean? The Sigma is my only flash (for now) so was considering how limiting that is?

I have just ordered a couple of Cactus V6's with an RF 60 flash. I'm a bit disappointed it won't work with the 360 FGZ II, but I have an SB 910, and a pair of studio heads, so at least I'm not completely at a loss. Slightly off topic, I have a Metz CL-4 (non digital) hammerhead flash gun, currently with an sca adapter for a Bronica ETRSi. Is there any way I can adapt it for use with the Pentax K-5 IIs and K-3? What adapters would I need, if this is possible? It would be a shame to have the flash go to waste. Answers will be greatly appreciated.

When I was writing the review, Cactus said they are working on supporting the FGZ II series.

Last time I asked, they were still at it, but it did seem like it would take them quite a bit more time.

Have a look at what maxfield_photo did with his CL-4. He also posted a follow up.

Yes, I haven't observed any issues.

If want to know anything specifically, I could run a test for you, as I have this flash.

The V6 comes with a profile for the Metz 58AF-2 pre-installed and you can also create your own profile if you feel that may improve accuracy. However, with my Canon 540EZ, the pre-installed profile was even slightly better than the one that I custom-created. In any event, the differences are so small, I don't think they'd ever become relevant in practice.

Thanks.

What test specifically?

I have used the Metz 58 AF-2 with the V6 with no problems.
Remote power control works as you would expect.

I'm assuming that since the Metz 52AF-1 Pentax did not work, the Metz 64 AF Pentax is probably a no-go, but has anyone tried this combo?
