D610 for $1389 at... wait for it...

Abe's of Maine. Grey Market.

Sorry. Don't recommend shopping there, but the one thing I purchased from them turned out OK... after I had to listen to some slimy salesman try to sell me a cheap ass UV filter.

Ugh. Buying anything from them just proves that their slimyness is acceptable...

I hope you feel suitably shamed and covered in contact-filth!

Well, I didn't buy a D610 from them! I bought from them once. DA*300 IIRC. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

Hmmm....I bought from them a couple of times a few years back and had no problem at all...sure, they tried to sell me some other junk but it wasn't unbearable pressure.
Maybe they have new management now that is not as customer friendly?

Anyhow, with Paypal's new 14 day pay policy, it takes the risk out of buying. You don't pay until you get the product and are satisfied with the transaction. Good move Paypal!

Regards!

I bought a little Panasonic P&S from them about 5-6 years back with no problems. Sure they suggested a service plan, but I refused and there were no problems and the price was lower that any place else on the market. That being said, I have also shopped with B&H, Beach and a few others with no problems.

The opinion was that full frame would not sell for less than $2500, less than $2000, less than $1700, less than $1500...

Do I see $800 coming? What is the future of small sensor DSLR?

I think the price issue has as much to do with Nikon's stock management as it does with the manufacturing costs of FF per se. People are saying Nikon has been dumping a lot of excess camera inventory recently. Sony the same. $300 cash-back rebates, 'reconditioned' and 'gray market' FF cameras galore.

Plus the fact that the price of everything drops over time.
Except food and fuel! The price of electronics seems to go down quite a bit every year though.

The one question was whether a fixed-chip size would go down in cost. I think we've seen the answer. The silicon in a chip is cheaper than the silicon in glass.

I've got a friend who has 2 Sony FF cameras, the A7R and A7S. And he brought his cameras so i could handle and drool over them :-)
At one point he mentioned that of 10 pictures he might take, only 1 of them would be from the FF cameras, the other 9 from one of his Sony crop cameras, the A6000 or his RX100.

So i predict we will still see a lot of crop cameras around - easier for many of us to carry and still more than effective for lots of pictures.

Edit: i reread your comment about DSLRs. As i compared his FF MILC Sonys to my K3, i noticed that in this cafe, my optical viewfinder was much dimmer than his EVF. And the EVF views were mighty fine. I think the cropped DSLRs (as opposed to the cropped MILC) are due for extinction relatively quickly.

Even though the sony full frames promise to give you the benefits of larger ff dslrs in smaller body, you are still giving some things up some things
Nikon D600 versus Sony A7S - Side by side camera comparison - DxOMark

I know we all take dx0mark with a grain of salt for to be honest, the only thing thats struck me as questionable is their iso performance..

I like the bodies - sort of - handled them but haven't done much shooting with them. But the hokey thing is - You can only get native zooms to F4. If you want faster zooms than that, you have to buy an adapter to use A-mount lenses which knock down iso performance and focusing performance. So a native zoom lens on a sony FF camera at F4 is only equivalent to an F2.8 lens on an APS sensor camera. Not really much of an advantage over my K3 for which ii have the F2.8 lenses. If you shoot only primes, then they have a few of those. If you shoot manual lenses, its great. But manual lenses don't work for the active theater dress rehearsals i shoot about 10 times a year.
