Tamron 200-500mm f6.9 BBAR Multi C Adaptall Lens ?????

I was just Surfing eBay for an inexpensive (cheap) 500mmish lens to take with me on my Quad instead of my Bigma 150-500. Its called damage control (old Navy talk). Since I put the touch on my Insurance Co. for $9000.00 a couple years ago for my stolen gear ; I have become self insuring . So If I end up in the Bog on my Quad I would like to keep the losses well under $1000.00. While I was surfing I thru a "or best offer" at the above noted lens On Robert's site ; they wanted $75 and had an Auto accept for a lower price which caught me off guard. I have had excellent success with Tamron in the past but don't have clue what I have bought.

Now for the Question: Has anyone any experience with this particular lens? (should I be xmas gifting it to my least favorite sibling)

Then you should be good to go - though at perhaps a slightly slower pace than with newer lenses. Have fun.

Thanks Carol , Steve so far no hands on experience from anyone. I pick it up at the border next Friday and will be able to self examine. There is enough time left I can re-wrap it and give it to my brother for Xmas if it turns out to be lessor than the Pin Hole Lens in a Shoe Box Camera.

97.7 oz is like a lot of lbs ! I only got a 250cc Quad and its already struggling to carry my bulk around.

So I went to the Border and picked up my Tamron 200-500mm f6.9 and its a good thing I took the 1/2 ton and 2 helpers cause they used a lot of metal in this unit.

I couldn't find any reviews at all on WWW and all I found was that it is the predecessor to the SP & AF Tamron highly acclaimed by some.

So in my own simple way I did my own review. I took pictures with it and compared it to my $1200 Bigma 150-500mm.

Now its been too cold to go outside ( -20/ wind chill -36) to test at infinity. So I tested at 20' in-doors.

The enclosed picture are: #1 Tamron @ 500mm
#2 Bigma @ 500mm
#3 Tamron @ 200mm
#4 Bigma @150mm

Conclusion: For $65 I got a half decent long lens I can use while Quadding keeping the damage to a minimum if there is a misshap and bonus I have a cheap Self Defense weapon as well. (Bear Spray costs Approx $80 and can only be used once where-as the Tamron can be used repeatedly). The colour reproduction is better on the Bigma.
