D-BG2 Grip - no autofocus?

I know there's been discussion before about the lack of an AF button on the D-BG2 grip, but is it supposed to auto focus when half-pressing the shutter?

Yes, it is. Check that the On/Off switch isn't stuck halfway, and if that doesn't work, take of the grip and make sure none of the pins are sticking.

Thanks - just tried it again and it's working now!

And now it won't work again. It just goes straight to firing the shutter regardless of whether it's got focus lock or not.

Does the camera have an AF/MF switch that you may have inadvertently moved to the MF position while monkeying with the grip?

There is a setting in the camera menu that allows AF with remote. At least it's that way with the K100D.....not sure about the 20D.

Not that it makes any difference, but remote AF is on in the custom settings. I know the AF/MF switch isn't the problem because the half-press on the body works as expected.
