News Paper Ads

I ran two in local papers looking for used lenses .
Had several calls .
1 call today was from a man who had a old screw lenses , all primes . spotomatic with a case that had alarm built into it . When you pick up the case ,
the alarm goes off .
He wants to sell it all , says the case will hold any camera , like my K10D

Know anything about these Pentax camera case with alarms ??

One way to find-out, go look at it and bring back some pix. Hell it would be worth it just for the novelty.

It probably isn't a Pentax case perse. More than likely a aftermarket case that has a motion sensor triggered alarm on it. I guess I can understand the need for it if you have your entire kit of lenses in one case while you are out shooting. Otherwise it could be overkill if all it would do is sit in your home for storage of lenses you don't take out with you.

Camera case with alarm

As MrApollinax points out, it probably isn't a Pentax case, but an aftermarket one. If it is from the Spotmatic era, it probably doesn't have a motion sensor, but rather a microswitch in the bottom.

This would be very handy for travelling, where you might have to put it down in an airport, hotel lobby or even in a crowded museum.

Some of the Spotmatic era primes are exceptional lenses, as good as anything on the market. I've used the 50/f1.4 from my Spotmatic on my K10D, with excellent results. I simply set the camera in Av mode, focus and shoot. Since I learned on a Spotmatic (my first "real" camera), stop-down metering doesn't bother me. I can't afford $200 for a new FA 50/f1.4 autofocus lens, so this is a great alternative.
