16GB Sandisk SDHC Ultra II experience

Hi Guys,

Just wanna find out whether you think my card is defective or I've done something wrong with my card.

Anyway, I've recently bought the 16GB Sandisk Ultra II SDHC with the latest 15MB/s enhancement. I put the card into my K20D to test how fast and good it performs.

When I shot a few test shots, it saves ok, but then when I start to review + scroll the photos, the memory light keeps blinking. The camera feels very unresponsive. Then I tried to zoom into the picture, and the camera returned a "cannot show image" message.

I've cards from 2GB to 8GB (total of 36GB), and none of them give me this problem.

Ok, I've tried to format the 16GB card in my K20D, and it stills exhibit the same symptoms. I've format the card on my latest PC, and used Panasonic Memory Card format tool to format the card completely (it went thru every clusters and wipe out stuff). Then I use some sort of burn-in test for memroy card to test the read/write speed for the entire 16GB space. All turn out ok, and no errors.

Put it back into my K20D or K10D, and both still shows the same issues. Is there a compatibility issue or its a camera limit?

Mike

I have two of them that I have been using with no problems. I'd presume the card is faulty and try a replacement before I started on about the camera.

I just bought a 16GB ADATA SDHC card yesterday and I'm having the same troubles. Its fine with 4GB and 8GB cards, but this 16GB card has troubles when I take another photo whilst the previous photo is still saving to memory (memory light flashing).

I tried copying lots of file onto this card on my computer without any troubles so I'm not sure whether to blame the card or the camera.

Did the original poster end up sorting out this issue?

I had this exact same problem with an 8GB card a couple months ago. I reformated many times, etc, just ended up tossing the card (it was a cheapie.)

I don't think it's a camera limit as I use a 16gb Transcend Class 6 without problems.

I have a question, and am not trying to be an a**hole. Are you sure you didn't get scammed with a cheapie card? There are a lot of fake cards out there, and they are nothing but trouble from all I have read - and not only on this forum.

I bought my card from an online retail store in oz, Shoppingsquare.com.au
I'm still waiting for Sandisk Oz to sort out my warranty issue. They have been working really slowly....one email in 2 weeks..... asking for serial #... then photos of the actual card.....

We'll see. In the mean time, I've tried taking photo in Jpeg, and the response time is slightly better when viewing. Only use for testing, as I can't run the risk of card failing on an actual event.

Hi Marc,

With the K100, I believe you need to upgrade to firmware 1.01 to get it to work with SDHC cards, and 1.02 improved the compatibility. The updates are available from the Pentax Imaging site -- look under support/self support/historic products/k100.
