Im planing to buy an flash fore my GX-10, but have no idea witch one...
I need one I can bounce from everyvere, and wierless..
Any good one out there fore me than?
If you want wireless and 'bounce from everywhere' you may have to go with Pentax A540FGZ. Sigma 530SG is cheaper, wireless won't work from built in flash. Metz 58 is pricier, same issue with wireless. Apparently Metz is less expensive in Europe.
I got myself Metz 58 for about 290 euros. I think it is the best flash one can get for Pentax. I have had it for about a month and it has not failed me even once. It offers a lot of functions and thus it takes time to learn to use it properly. The build quality is excellent. Unlike the Pentax own best model, it does not get stuck on the hot shoe. It is also the most powerful flash, which comes handy, when you use ceiling bounce in a large room. It does both tilt and swivel and is capable of PTTL as well as Auto mode (using flash own sensor). I have mostly used the latter one and find it quite accurate.
Hi ITW - I have Samsung's own SEF36-PZF (AF360FGZ), which (following a firmware update) I can use wirelessly as a slave from my GX-10's inbuilt unit. If you want to bounce from everywhere and want to use a manufacturer's own flash, you'll need to look at the SEF54-PZF/AF540FGZ. If you want to use the inbuilt unit as the master, you'll need to download Firmware v1.3 from Samsung's support site and install it as per their instructions.
If you use one of the Pentax/Samsung flashguns in wireless mode with firmware v1.3, select receiver channel 2 on the flash, then everything works in sync properly.
My way around the lock pin issue known to affect the manufacturer's proprietory units is not to deploy the locking system, I find the hotshoe is pretty snug as not to really need it.
Sigma 530SG is cheaper, wireless won't work from built in flash.
The Sigma EF530DG Super works SUPER in wireless mode WITH the on board flash as well as with another Sigma EF 530DG Super flash unit. I'm now using two EF 530DG Super and one EF 500DG Super and everything works like a charm. There was a sync problem in wireless mode with the EF500DG Super and on board flash, but that was resolved with a firmware upgrade (at no cost) by Sigma.
Let me know if you have any questions that doesn't cover.
Awesome job, Matt. Thanks for putting this together. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to hook up the new generation of flashes to the old Quantum battery pack workhorses of 25 years ago.
