Some of you may have already seen it, but Metz is now offering rebates on their flash units, including the 58 ($40 rebate). I've been saving up for one of these, glad I waited until now! Looking forward to comparing it to my Pentax AF540.
One thing I noticed though, the same flash (Metz 58) for Canon and Nikon is quite a bit cheaper than the Pentax-dedicated unit. Not fair! Anyway, if anyone else was interested in this flash, now may be the time...

It's in the same class as the Pentax AF540, Sigma 530 (Super?). Supposedly any of these three (and I'm sure there are a few other brands) could be "mix-and-matched" as well, either as wireless slaves, or controllers for the second flash, and also to do wireless HSS (requires two flash units for that though, one on-camera). So I should be able to use my AF540 with the Metz in wireless mode. (And if I really like it I'll probably get rid of the 540 and pick up another Metz.)
MattDM had a really good write-up on the various flash units available for Pentax, and the Metz looks to be "top dog", at least IMO.
But the unit must be within view of the flash from the camera. To have true "wireless" it will need a radio receiver setup.
Yes I know the difference. I think anybody else investigating the purchase of such a flash would, too. If I want to have true wireless, and lose the option of P-TTL, I'll use my FlashWaves radio triggers to fire the Metz and/or Pentax flash.
My Sunpak 383's work fine on radio triggers but can't do P-TTL. The Metz can do both. Again, if anybody's interested there are rebates now available.
I just want to know if it recycles faster than the 540, because even on batterypack the 540 just bairly cuts it for me at big events.
I had a metz 53 that I loved, thinking about this one now
