RF-602 Wireless FLash Triggers

Just received my first transmitter and receiver set! This is the "newer version" of the CTR-301, but utilizes the 2.4GHz frequency from Yongnuo. After researching a bit on the strobist flickr group and seeing the first positive reviews, I bit on this set.

I tested consistency from same room, and from upstairs and missed 0/10 test shots at both locations. I will be testing distance later, but so far I'm very pleased!

Test: K10d, Vivitar 285HV, RF-602 triggers

edit: After some initial testing from some of the members here and myself, the fastest sync speed achievable without banding is 1/125th. If syncing at 1/180 is a priority, I would recommend another Tx/Rx system or waiting for the next release.

If you have an AF 540 flash, can you test to see the new RF-602 works with it with sync speed of 180. The 540 flash doesn't work with the CTR 301P when the sync speed is greater then 1/30 sec.

Thanks.

Just got a TX & RX set today.. 2.4 GHZ youngnuo's.. This trigger rocks for the price (: went 150meters 100 percent fire.. I could have gone further, but I had no shoes on & it was cold and dark..( I am lazy).. Had AF 540 fgz setup in car, in the driveway.. I think the people accross the road were thinking what was going on lol.. Build quality is good too.. No problems with mis
firing in house full of 2.4 ghz stuff.. Cordless phones... WiFi, Bluetooth ect..

X Sync no problems AF 540fgz & K-7... (: (1\180)

WOW that's a great price. If I didn't have my Alienbees stuff, I'd be all over this!

I notice the listing saying "It can be used as wireless remote shutter release."

But it comes with a 3-pin connector, not the one used for Pentax (and some Canons).

Have you tested it as a wireless remote shutter release?

Different cables for different cameras. There is a 2.5 mini plug version and you can buy the cables separately.

Thank you

After some initial testing, I have come across a problem with these units.

My set will sync at 1/180th, but the bottom of the frame catches a very little portion of the shutter. Slowing the shutter to 1/160 solves this issue, but I have contacted the eBay owner about this as it is advertised as being able to achieve 1/250 sync (and others have reported this also).

I am using k10d firmware v1.3, and vivitar 285HV flash. I tried both of the Rx (receivers) so I'm guessing the problem lies with the transmitter. 1/180 works perfectly when using the hot-shoe connection, so the problem lies not with the camera.

Can anyone confirm this in 1/180 x-sync?

Try replacing the battery in the transmitter. The one that is shipped with it tends to be a low power 'tester' battery. My PT-04TM does the same thing when the battery gets low.

Hey alohadave,

Just got a response from hkyongnuophotoequipment stating the same thing. Will get a new battery (CR 2 for those wondering) and report back tomorrow!

Charge your flash battery also. I recharged my AAs for my 540fgz and all good.

Reviews have been pretty good on this model. It is very tempting even though I have the Cybersync system. I one transmitter and one receiver from Cybersync right now and I need another receiver from them which cost $68.95. For $10 cheaper I can get a transmitter and TWO receiver.

For those who ordered it, how long did it take to ship from HongKong to the US?

Yep, I have fully charged eneloops packs in two different flashes with two different RF602Rx (receivers) and two different fully charged camera batteries...

No more than 10 days (at least for me).

And the update:

I bought a new CR2 for the transmitter and it's still giving me issues. Three examples (overexposed to clearly see the shutter lag):

As I mentioned before, using the vivitar on-camera at 180 x-sync works perfectly.

The problem must lie in the transmitter unless I'm missing something...
