Yes

The HP-branded Remote Control F that came with my HP Photosmart 912 bought in 2001 also worked with the Option S40, *ist DS, K10D and the K-7.

It didn't work with the Optio WP because it didn't work with a remote control, but I probably hadn't tried it before I sold the Optio WP.

I fully expect it to work with a DSLR Pentax releases in 2012, and all remote-capable Pentax film bodies.

Yes that's the one, a lot of them were acquired when Ritz had their big sell off.

They should..as with the TV remotes, different brands are assigned different frequencies for them to operate on so that even with the non-dedicated remotes that are being sold on ebay should work..also those ones that have the Pentax-Canon-Nikon, all rolled into one remote should work.

inside the remote control f

hi all as a newbee here and ive just bought myself a pentax k-m , the remote control f price came as a bit of a shock!
i mainly needed it for lapse time photography ( still working on the timer bit!, but not a problem!) also i would need to connect the remote to the timer,so after paying a small fortune for the remote i decided that i should realy find another remote rather than wreck the control f! so went for a cheap tv remote and hacked that up instead!so now i have the 2 wires coming out ready for the timer.
anyhow heres a pic of the inside of the remote control f,for 2 reasons
1 just so you can see what is inside for your money
2 some people want to be able to connect some sort of lanyard/nylon so it doesnt go missing ,as its so small!! ( hot needle, nylon, good judgement!! at your own risk).
battery is a lithium cr1620,remote is held together by 3 small screws.

A lens keeper on the remote, works pretty well to attach it to a lanyard.

If I had a K-M, I think I would try to wire a remote IR blaster to the IR of the remote for use with bulb mode and your timer.

Thank you
Russell

Welcome to the forums cheekybear.
I never really looked closely at the remote control F since it was so tiny.
So it has screws ha..so, it's actually easy to replace battery once it dies.
Thanks for this.
We will be looking forward to your future posts!
Nice job.
By the way, I know you can use the TI (texas instuments) graphing calculator as a time lapse controller/intervalometer.
It easily connects to the Pentax DSLR as it uses the small headphone jack same as the cable remotes.
You can google for it as I forgot the webpage.

The K-M doesn't have a wired remote shutter port. The only remote available on it, is IR.

Thank you

Thanks for the response gents

i had not thought of using a lense keeper, probably because i have not bought any extra bits and pieces in that line,
remote ir blaster, not a bad idea, but could you just give me a little more info on that russell.
gerryl i think you may be getting mixed up with the km and the k-m, unless i put the dash- in there things can get a little confusing especially when on google or ebay with the k-m being the newer and digital.
spock ,my remote control f,has defo got 3 screws,is yours an "remote control f" ir?
i probably asume it is or it could be an earlier model either that or its just a design change, then again if it is a litle different it would make a nice picture and conversation piece!
One little thing i did realise is that on the remote circuit board theres the part where the switch/trigger button sits ,but lower down theres another possibility for maybe something else where another button could be used,"have pentax not told us something?" or are they even using this board in multiple remotes and just label them differently.

Hmmm..I didn't know that.
I was assuming that this remote port was standard on Pentax DSLR's.
That's a bummer.
Would've been easy to make time lapse recording or intervalometer.

hi gerryl.
my mz30 has wired remote, which would have been a good camera to use, apart from the price of film!
before i bought the k-m , i didnt think about time lapse, its just something which i found out about later,
the mz30 would have been a good candidate for timer circuit fun.thees a few circuits out there ive seen and people have various ideas how to do the switching.i kind of know my electronics circuits ,and theyre easy to build(said he,,thinking il actually buy a kit)as its better to buy the parts rather than waste time on surplus parts that might not work, saves lookin through the junkbox!
basically i got the k-m so i could use the sigma 300mm lense that i already have got, seems to work ok,searches a little but its good.
cheers for now

Bulb operation

A quick question to those of you who have the official Pentax remote F - Does it continually send the signal while the button is pressed and thus support the Bulb shutter mode? The reason I ask is that I have now purchased 2 cheap alternatives, a JJC RM-E7 and a smaller one which only has 'For Pentax' written on the top. Both of these only send the signal once on pressing the button, and to support Bulb mode it needs to keep sending! I also have K-m and so do not have a wired alternative. Pentax really didnt think this through with with K-m as there is no method of firing the shutter in Bulb mode and keeping open without touching the camera

Anyway before I splash the silly amount for the Pentax remote I thought I would ask.

BTW for a quick test if you observe the IR LED through a live view camera LCD you can see it operating and hopefully see it lit for as long as you keep the button pressed....

Thanks!

In looking at my bookmarks to answer the question about an IR blaster, I came across another site's bookmark and I think if I owned a K-M, this would be the solution to use, Remote Control for Pentax.

There are old ipaq pocket PCs on ebay for $40. Best to read the wikipedia article on the ipaq to make sure you get one with an IR port.

Thank you
Russell
