New flash solves blinky problem

I have a subject that ALWAYS got caught with a half-blink when being photographed using the on-board flash (P-TTL). I used to have to try no-flash slow shutter shots instead .

I now have a Metz 48 AF-1. In my initial trials it appears to have solved that problem. Maybe the 2 flashes are closer together, not giving time to blink? Maybe the pre-flash isn't so bright? Don't know, don't care, I just know it has helped.

However for some reason the flash doesn't zoom to 70mm when I have my Sigma 17-70 attached and at 70mm. I think it does have a 70mm (105mm equiv) step. I'll check my exif to see if it's recorded as 70mm, pretty sure it does though.

Hmmm.... i just realised (i was playing with mine last night) that with the da70LTD the flash was zooming for 85mm. Weird.

Is the display programmed to show "35mm equivalent" focal length?

I realized 70mm is 105mm "35mm-equivalent." But 85mm may be the max. the flash head can zoom out.

Max for the 48 is 70mm APS-C, being 105mm equiv.

There was an earlier thread about this as well. The flash seems to be a little conservative at 70mm and stays one step back.

Thanks Matt.

While you're here (), rear-curtain flash, do you have to set it ono the body, or flash, or both? Or is the on-flash setting just for wireless maybe?
