Since current Pentax DSLR's already have built-in image stabilization, and this $1 "image stabilizer" (with limited vertical movement reduction and almost no horizontal movement reduction) would lose effectiveness long before that (obviously still requiring a tripod), perhaps the title should have said this was a limited option for P&S cameras without image stabilization. But, ultimately, no piece of string is ever going to seriously replace a good tripod, for P&S users or anyone else.

You'll notice his camera strap was from C&%@n. I guess this is much better than over paying for every lens to have the same function thatis in our bodies.
I just can't wait to see the post in the DSLR forum about the lack of the pentax cameras to withstand the damage from the "pro" conditions when he trips on the string and pulls the camera to the ground.

Didn't even notice the camera strap. Well, that certainly explains why a string might appeal to the guy in the video. But, in my defense, I did say "P&S users," which certainly does apply to more than a few C---n DSLR users I've seen.

Pretty funny, Lowell. However, I don't think even that guy is foolish enough to try any variation of the dropped camera routine again. Instead, a more likely scenario in this case is him cutting the string too short, stretching it too tight, releasing the metal washer, breaking the front glass of his lens, and THEN complaining about Pentax lenses in "pro" conditions (strings and flying metal projectiles) equals failure.

thanks for the laugh, if we are lucky, maybe the washer will miss the lens altogether and hit the guy in the head, thereby knocking some sense into him. But let's stop this line of thinking before we start another multi page bad joke thread.
I actually recall somewhere, and it was many years ago now, so don't ask where, I saw the same concept, but using your camera strap, hooked around what ever was close, so you could pull against it to help stabalize the camera.

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember something (magazine article, etc) along those lines as well. Actually, since the professional solutions (chest harnesses, gravity-based brackets, gyroscopic mounts, etc) are so horribly expensive, I can certainly appreciate the thinking behind these budget ideas. But the combination of a decent tripod and in-camera image stabilization pretty much renders these things useless for anything beyond cameras without image stabilization (or a bit of passing humor). However, that might change entirely with the very next idea.
I didn't mind the linked video so terribly, but afterwards I foolishly clicked on this video. I expect to have nightmares tonight.
Well, gee thanks, Mike. You just knew we would have to click on it to see what you're talking about. And, of course, I did. I'm not even going to ask what he was putting in his mouth, because I probably don't really want to know.
