Hi,

Aditya here from Bhubaneswar. I source most of my equipment from Bangalore. My current kit includes K 100D, Vivitar V3000s (rarely used nowadays), Vivitar 50mm f/1.7, Pentax smc 18-55 DA (kit lens), Tamron 75-300 f/4-5.6 LD AF and a cheap Vivitar tripod.

I shoot mostly wildlife and will be buying a Sigma APO 170-500 f/5-6.3 DG in Bangalore next week if the dealers manage to source one for me. I already have a confirmed ticket to B'lore on Sunday, but as of now I still haven't been confirmed of the lens's availability My only regret buying Pentax (apart from the <3fps burst mode)- next to impossible to source lenses, especially here in India. But still, despite lots of well meaning advice from friends, will NOT shift to Canikon! If anybody has this lens (or a similar one, with AF, similar reach) in good condition and might want to sell it, I'll take it rightaway.

With the K 100D not accepting Sigma's HSM lenses, I'm considering selling off my Pentax 'wildlife photographer's beginner kit' (K 100D, kit lens, Tammy 75-300, batteries, tripod, etc.) and going in for a K 10D if I get a good price. Would love it if Pentax gave the K 100D a firmware update to make it compatible with SDM lenses... but don't see that coming any time soon, if at all...

Anyways, always nice to see other Pentaxians in India!

Cheers!

P.S: If anyone here can help me source a Sigma 170-500 in Bangalore by next week, I'll be more than grateful. Both Jayesh Mehta (Fotocircle) and R K Photoguide aren't being of much help

From Mumbai ...

Hi guys,

I am from Mumbai.

Bodies - Digital - Pentax K10D, Film - Pentax ME-F, Cosina C2

two auto lenses - pentax kit lens 18-55/3.5-5.6, tamron 28-200/3.5-5.6

four manual lenses - pentax 50/1.5, pentax 24/2.8, ricoh 28-105/3.5-4.5, tamron 28-200/3.5-5.6

one 2X TC - tamron auto focus

Very happy to have this gear, want to dispose off the manual tamron, and get either a 50-200 or 75-300, preferably pentax

Also looking to include some cheap and light weight vari-zooms - 420-800 types, and 500/8 mirror,

Since these are very slow, and I am getting old , also looking for micro-prism / split-prism based bright focussing screen (Catz Eyes) as a replacement for the flat one

Also trying to fabricate a tessar, but that is a long story, sometime later ...

Also, ...

Any suggestions welcome ...

Cheers,
Chetan

Hi all!
Good to see this many Pentaxians in India I recently went to a photo equipment expo in bangalore. A 'Sigma' dealer rep told me that, he can get Canikon mount lenses right away and for Pentax (any of the Sigma lens, he assured) he would have to source it (upto a month, he says). Just thought will inform you. The dealer is 'Shetala Cameras'

Hello Sumanta here,
I've recently bought a K100D and a 50f2A and a 100f2.8M after that. I live in London for sometime now.
I have a 350D but figured out Pentax lenses are having more VFM as they are cheaper for their reduced demand in market.
I have some prime screw mount lenses as well which I use on 350D and will be using with Pentax too.
The screw mount lenses are 58f2, 28f2.8, 135f2.8 and 3.5, 200f3.5 and f4 and 85f1.9.
I am targetting a Sigma 400f5.6APO, but can't decide as I haven't got feed back how good it is optically.
Do anybody know about it?

Rakesh, I think I know you if you are from Kota, Rajasthan as I once asked your K100D cost. I used to stay in Gurgaon prior to hop to London.

Wow the Pentax India community has increased a lot, I never looked back at this thread much after posting it.
Buying Pentax lens in India is difficult still I managed to collect a lot, most of them purchased from this Forum. My friends usually visit US for official works so they bring lens for me. I just get them shipped to their address.
Most of the lenses I required I have purchased, all of them are cheap manual lenses. Now Im planning to get a Pentax-F1.7x TC so some of my long teles would become AF lens . But the 1.7x TC is too costly will find some in reasonable range.
Plus I would like to add one 85mm lens to my inventory .
Any one of you if come across both of these items in India please let me know, I will surely try to purchase it if cost is reasonable.

Thanks all for posting in this Thread

Hi Suresh,

Most probably I would be selling A50 f1.4 lens next month, I have purchased an FA 501.4.
If you have friends who frequently visit US they can bring lens for you.

Hurray!!! I didnt know these many pentaxians would be in India. I was very much disappointed when I found that nobody cares for pentax in India and they look to you as if you are alien if you are not using Nik or Cans. I bought my K100D in USA with 18-55 and 50-200 mm DA lenses. I wanted to buy a zoom lens with 300mm reach but I couldnt find any to fit on my pentax not even from Tamron.
I visited Mumbai to try if I can get pentax lenses but no luck.
Currently I am hoping to buy 55-300 mm lens but I'm sure that we wont get in India till couple of years. I may try to get it from USA.
Can somebody help me if they found out to find such lenses in India?

Atindra

Hi Atindra,

Better you buy lenses from US. Finding them in India is real hard.
