Pentax Rentals

this came up here: The * lens club

Direct reply: Because I somehow have to convince a bank to loan me like $12+K to have one each (atleast) of the expensive lenses, and 2-3 ec. of bodies, flashes etc.
I currently only have enough to loan out one "kit" 6mp body, flash and assortment of lenses from 19-400mm. They are not all the best lenses, but they get the job done. They are a combo of my "back-up" equipment and "travel" gear" as well as my older stuff that I have since "replaced" with genuine Pentax glass. the rest of my stuff I can sometimes let really good friends use for 24hr or less, but I am usually shooting enough during the week that it makes it really hard to sinc up to loan out my "good" gear.
(This is not an ad or invite, so don't start PM'ing me etc. w/ hey... whats your fee/availability etc.)

Extended reply:
And to all others wondering. Currently I have thought about this and talked with a few people. If your interested in this prospect please post it here. I do not have enough gear as of yet, but do have a fair amount that I do already loan out to some local MD'ers when needed. (Sorry no the 300mm F2.8 is not one that I can... its complicated) I also am in good with a Pentax Rep so I will foward this information over to Pentax USA via him as an idea for future programs, so post what you would like to see available to rent. (Besides, of course, the long-glass, but it will be interesting to see how many would be willing to pay the common prices to rent long glass, about $100+/day)

wow, it looks like the first non-national bank of Petnexers, the Davad branch is opening up its doors to a small business... Though I wonder what their true loan security is LOL

I think that would be $100.00 per day plus the insurance that would be needed to replace or repair damaged lenses. I'm just wondering about the collection force needed to get a stray lens back.
Well Ok I may have some of the security but I need the goods.

if there was one up here in nyc, i'd be more than happy to rent and keep on renting. the rental places only rent out canon/nikon...which sucks...(for me anyway)

as for collection..just have their credit card number.....they dont return it within the specified time..charge them for a daily rental fee + 30% that should make it is back on time..heh

Even better, the rental contract should state that if the equipment is not returned within a specified period of time after the end of the rental period, it will be assumed that renter has decided to purchase the equipment, and the full retail value will be charged to the credit card.

Why would anyone pay $100 to rent a lens for a day?

I'm being serious, I honestly just couldn't ever see myself doing it. I guess this is only really for those ultra-expensive telephotos? Because really, for a two-day rental you could purchase outright an FA50/1.4!

Look at rental prices... even for like a D70 w/ 17-705mm kit lens... its like $100/day, and for a 1gig CF card its like 25/day at my local rental place.
Many people need high end equipment for short times, plus its easy to take off taxes.
$100/day is very reasonable I think considering... If your renting a 300 F2.8 or 600 F4 your looking at lens cost from $4-6K so for a common person who might need this type of lens 1/mo or for 1wk/yr (like for a trip) its better to rent
Now for a 50mm yah, $100 is high. You would probaly be looking at like $25-50/day for most lenses in the $200-1000 cost range. Bodies would be in the $100/day range w/ kit lens probaly unless its a high end body like a 1dsmk2
I know alot of guys who rent they all have their own reasons. for me I prefer to own most of the time, but I would love to be able to rent a 600mm or a 400F2.8 for some games I shoot, or for a birding trip.
