The camera switches it off anyway. Have you ever noticed any ill effects of leaving SR on while using a tripod? I recall some tested this and noticed nothing wrong at all.

On the other hand I have accidentally turned SR off for an entire session where it was critical.

I don't think that's totally correct. If you set the camera for 2 second MLU, then the SR turns off automatically. But just leaving the function to single or burst shooting and putting it on a tripod, SR is still active. I've tried this a couple of times and the shot looks soft when SR is on and the camera is on a tripod. Switch it off and the same shot is sharper. It's in the manual somewhere.

OK, that clarifies it. I think I always use MLU when on a tripod. So maybe for me it hasn't been an issue. But something to watch.

Well so did I most of the times, but sometimes it makes timing a little difficult if you use the 2 second delay.
