Quick printing question

I'm still relatively new to all this photography stuff (and to the forum as well). Due to my neophyte status, I've a quick question to ask you, o purveyors of the ancient lore.

Where do you guys feel that you get the best deal for printing images? I am looking to print out several hundred 9x12 shots (well, not at once, because I am not that rich). Are online deals worth it? The prices are good, but can anyone vouch for the quality? Adorama seems to have the best deals, since I can save on shipping by picking up the prints in store.

I live in NYC, so if anyone knows of any good deals specific to that area, I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks everyone!

Sorry, no experience with US printers, but i had good luck up here in the Toronto area with Future shop's print service, which is no no more. Kodak Gallery has taken over, but i have yet to do any prints with them. I will be sending some in next week, and will report back.

I use Adorama all the time. They have very good quality and are usually very fast. I've never had an issue with them and would definately recommend them.

Another one is White House Custom Color (www.whcc.com). They are a bit more expensive but provide a much wider array of services. They also are geared towards the professional photographer.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I ended up ordering some prints from Adorama on Sunday evening at around 11pm or so, and they were done and ready for pickup by 3 the next day. Very fast service. Also, love how there is no shipping costs if you pick up in store.

I've experimented with a couple of different types of paper stock and coatings, and I've come to realize I know absolutely nothing about picking the right kind of settings for printing photos. I've got so much I'd like to learn, I wouldn't even know where to start. Does anyone know of any good resources to learn more about the differences in printing styles and techniques? I feel like my photos are a lot better than they end up looking when printed.
