published images - the news is coming!!!

Hi Everyone,

Just an update from the VLF Wildlife Photo Competition - details found here: South Texas Shootout - Wildlife Photography Contest - Valley Land Fund

I confirmed today with a staff member at VLF that the letters notifying photographers which have placed in the contest are being sent out this week. Those who did not get a placing will not receive a letter. Those receiving a letter will have their image(s) published in the upcoming nature book. It's a coffee table sized hardcover - the last edition had approx. 200 images in it, and proceeds are used towards land conservation efforts. VLF is a non-profit organization promoting private land conservation in deep south Texas, and long term plans are to potentially extend into the surrounding states. Private land conservation is important, since perhaps 20-25% of all lands in the US is public (state/national parks, etc.) .

So what's the good news? I have been told that I am receiving a letter notifying me of "several placings". The staffer was not willing to provide any additional information at this time, so I must wait. Those images will be published in the book. I have no idea how many of my images have been selected or what they placed (1st, 2nd or 3rd). I also have no idea whether or not my images might have been a division winner, or the long shot of being good enough to be a contender or even considered in the Grand Prize portfolio competition.

I've only placed several images from the competition on my website, and you are welcome to view them in the Nature galleries. I do hope to have more up in the next few days or by the weekend. I know it may not sound like it, but this waiting is killing me!!!

Here is the prize list breakdown (split between the photographer and the rancher):

Grand Prizes for Winning Portfolios
$12,000 1st Grand Prize
$8,000 2nd Grand Prize
$5,000 3rd Grand Prize
$25,000 Total

Division Winners
Five Divisions, each paying $5,000 as follows:
$2,500 1st Place
$1,500 2nd Place
$1,000 3rd Place
$5,000 Sub-total
$25,000 Total

Class Winners
Fifty classes, each paying $1,000 as follows:
$500 1st Place
$300 2nd Place
$200 3rd Place
$1,000 Sub-total
$50,000 Total

Regards,
Marc

Great news Marc! I thought some of those images were money makers. I know the wait is a killer, but hang in there. Grit you teeth, tie a knot and hang on! LOL

That is great news Marc. Many of us have been waiting just as anxiously along with you. Great to see someone advancing their career.

It's like a lotto but they release each number once a month and you have 5 of 6 numbers so far. This month is the final number....

I had not seen "final moments of a frog" before and it's a great capture. I'm assuming that it's in the submissions.

Outstanding Marc and well deserved from the shots you have shared here. A congratulation on what I am sure is just the start of many accolades to come.
Glad you got the heads up , beats checking the mail every day , did the postman drop it ? Did it get misfiled ? I hate that kind of notice …. Stressfull!

Thanks Guys! Yes, it's already caused some loss of sleep. I woke up earlier than normal, and I had trouble getting back to sleep.

It's building, no question... !!!

Cheers,
