Montreal visiting (end of september) what would you suggest?

Hi folks,

I'll be visiting Montreal 27/09 through 06/10. What would be your suggestions for places to visit and/or 'must see'. Gonna bring my k10d with kit lenses... so maybe someone could recommend the good place to buy lenses and other photo accessories?

Thanks
Fortis

Good places to buy :

Simon's Cameras, and L. L. Lozeau are the first one coming to mind. As for places to visit: just about everything. There are just so many places to visit, I can't name them all here. What are you spcifically looking for? Just narrow it down a little bit and the information will come. Send a PM and I might be able to take you around a little bit. Anyway, there's a lot to enjoy in Montréal.

Geeez, there is so much to see!

Here are some of the places I bring tourist friends to:

- Old port (The old port, now a "park")
- Old Montreal (not that old compared to europe, but still thats where our colonisation started, and a very nice place to visit)
- Mount Royal, also known as "The Mountain" (park/mountain in the middle of the city)
- On Mount Royal you want to catch Beaver Lake, the Lookout (great view of downtown), and the top balcony of the St-Joseph Oratory (great view of the north-western side of the city)
- St-Joseph Oratory (big cathedral built with art deco influences)
- Notre Dame cathedral (wow!)
- The Olympic stadium (home of the '76 Olympic)
- The Biodome (right by the stadium), an indoor living bio musuem of Canadian wilderness
- At night you want to take a walk down Ste-Catherine street, known as "The Main"

There is so much more, but those are the first things that come to mind...

Pat

flyer, ve2vfd thanks a lot for your suggestions. I forgot to mention that it would be the second time I'll be in Montreal. First I visited this beautiful city in 2002 but... 2 days I was suffering from jet lag and on a fourth day I was packing my luggage for getting back to Lithuania. So hopefully this time I'll have more time to explore this beauty. BTW I am staying at the hotel where Desjardins headquarters are located (I think it's Ste-Catherine street?).

It is hard to be specific about what I want to see - it is the architecture, nature - the autumn maple leaves (red, yellow, green and brown), waterfalls and of course the city life. I do believe that Quebec city will be on my list as well.

I'll google map your suggested places on my pentax-shooting-route.
Thanks a lot once again!

Fortis

You'll be right in time to see the "colors festival". If you have a chance try to find time to visit the Laurentides. It's not too far from Montreal (1h) and there are a lot of beautiful places to take pictures of the autumnal colors.

you also have to visit Supersex, but they will probably make you leave your camera behind.

I live in the lower Laurentians (Laurentides, in French), so I know the area pretty well, and I regularly go to Québec, a city worth visiting. Feel free to call for any information you need.
