where to put the camera

so this is a random question..

where should i keep my dslr when its not in use. or where do you keep yours?

currently its on the ground in the holster bag. not very aesthetic nor accessible.

any ideas for safe places or on the wall? or something that looks cooler?

I suggest a shelf completely surrounded by forced air currents that will keep the dust at bay. Surround the shelf also with a laser grid that will aid in the capture of theives and maybe that laser can burn a bit too if a would-be-thief tries to make it through.

Now THAT would be damn cool eh......

(please dont take offense to silliness...its just fun)

I keep my work cams in a lowepro over in the corner on the floor where nothing really touches them.
My other cams usually sit on a shelf that I walk by a lot prompting me to grab one on my way out for a walk.
Have fun.

Well I have 7 bodies. Some less used are behind a locker, some are in the kitchen, some in the living room, some in my camera bag, some in my other bag.. LOL

I need a proper place for them, and I've been thinking of nailing a shelf somewhere on the wall for camera stuff, but how to keep the cats away?

Mine sits on the center console of my truck, within easy reach, resting on a sandwich of non-slip matting, a folded hand towel, and another layer of non-slip matting. Probably pick it up at least a hundred times a day and can lay my hands right on it without even looking.

I keep mine in a small camera bag on a shelf...

EDIT!: I always have some of those small Desiccant Gel bags in my camera bags... wet weather @ Buenos Aires...

My solution works to keep the dust and cats out.
I keep my lenses in my bag, which is stored in a big drawer in my office. A closet on a shelf would also be a good place, as well.

Heather

I usually keep mine in my filling cabinant and the bag is next to the cabinant so in easy reach.
The only problem I have with leaving it in the bag is over the years I have lost about 4 lenses to mold because the were locked up in 1 bag while i was using the other.
Especially after holidays I always leave my bag unzipped and open to let it breath and make sure it is completly dry.
By the way the filing cabinant has a box full of silicone gel packs in it to keep moisture at bay!

I haven't tried this, but I understand that cats hate the feel of crumpled up tinfoil on their paws.
So to keep a cat away crumple up that tinfoil, and straighten it out loosely.
Then lay it out, on the table or whatever you want to keep them off.
Eventually they'll learn and stop going there. Then remove the tinfoil and go about life as normal.

I just made myself a drawer for my lenses. I was going nuts digging through different bags for my lenses. I decided I'd had enough. I wanted to do a shelf/cabinet type thing with a glass door I could see through. But it would have to be custom made and I haven't got any takers yet. Now I have them in a Tall Boy dresser lined with soft material. Easy to see what I have and grab what I need. I have another drawer with accessories.
Now I must admit though that I also have two k10d bodies sitting on the dinning room table behind me right now and a couple lenses too. They are there because I often will see something in the backyard I want to capture NOW like a bird or moving critter. My Tall Boy is in another room on the other end of the house. Now my home is very small, but still every step counts when grabbing for wildlife.

At this very moment, my k10d is attached to my M 400/5.6 which is mounted on my Manfrotto 0168 ball head on my Manfrotto 055B (for black) tripod. It's migration season, and we are getting all sorts of birds out back.

The rest of the gear goes in a closet that was an accidental space created when I made an office with the back wall clear of the heating ducts. There is a bout 2 feet deep by 1.5 feet wide. The tripods go on the bottom, with the LowePro Trekker furthest in and the LowePro 100 AW sling back in front. The sling back is full with all three of my DA lenses, one on the k10d, plus my 100 macro.
