Pentax Strobist group? Is there such a thing?

Just curious about a strobist type group specific to Pentax owners. I have bought some new toys and want to get as much help as I can.

Why not start a social group here for it Pat?

What toys did you get by the way?

Thanks to my emails to Stewart_Photo I got a box from B&H with the following at my door last night.
Bogen / Manfrotto 001B Nano Light Stand with Retractable Legs (Black) - 6' (1.8m) MFR #001B • B&H #BO001B

Impact Umbrella Bracket with Swivel Mount and Flash Shoe
MFR #3117 • B&H #IMBSM

Photoflex Umbrella with Adjustable Frame - White with Black Backing - 30"
MFR #UM-ADW30 • B&H #PHU30W

(not in until next week)
Ebay Cactus v2s (I am cheap sorry) 1 trigger and 2 receivers

I have the 540 and was trying to work with it in wireless last night. I just can't seem to get it right. The exposure looked way off like something wasn't working.

I am looking for tips and settings really Pentax specific. I have a bunch of reading tonight over at Strobist and Flickr. But I think we should have a group her to share or specific brand helpfull hints.

I'm game for a Strobist social group here. I finally got the Garage/Workshop (a.k.a. The Hole) cleared out enough this past weekend that I can actually pull out the umbrellas without taking over half the house.

That's quite a haul Pat. I'll let you in on a little something. The person you want to talk to is BrandenPK. He does a heck of a job, and knows a lot about strobe flash work. I've worked with him some here at the house, and learned a great deal in the little time we had. the bad news here is I haven't heard from him in a while here on the forum. but you can try to pm him. If that doesn't work then I have his regular E-mail.
Good luck my friend. I want to see some good things from you soon.

He was exactly who I was thinking of. I remember your get together and really wish I could have been part of that. I hope he is still out here somewhere and willl chime in!!!

On a side not Dave I sent you a PM last week did you get it? You can answer in PM if you want.

I will maybe get some time to tinker again with the K10 and the 540 tonight we shall see.

Wow!!! I just checked all of my PM's and I don't see one here from you Pat. try and send it again and lets see if I get it.
I know all last week I was fighting with a computer crash and Microsoft. so I really haven't been paying close attention to most e-mails and Pm's, until I got it back up and running. I need it for classes and am now a week behind on work, but I figure spending 18 hours a day getting it back up and running and playing catchup in school I now deserve some quality time with it.

I posted this in the group but think may have better chance of being seen here. So I had my first DAH!!! moment. Okay for those that buy the (impact umbrella mount bracket) like me it comes with little instructions. I assumed the stud with the hot shoe bracket on top was correct. Tonight after tinkering I figured out why I could not get the umbrella to move. It was upside down DAHH!!! This is the right way and the set up now

Now my next question or thought here is the set up now

If I add the V2s to this wont the flash not be shooting into the center of the umbrella? Oh another question what should I use for settings on the 540? Now I am using it wirelessly. and really not sure I am doing it correct. I get the flash to fire but what should I set the flash to??

I faced the same issue (stacking strobe & V2s) and posted my solution in the group. But in short: Velcro.

Okay, I set up a group in Flickr as well. Not that I want to pull away from here as that is by far the last thing I want to do. But that group could help open up and get more folks here as well. I set it up while on my phone so really it is just there in name for now. here is the link Flickr: Pentax Strobist With the orginal Strobist there I hope we can help get more folks to help us folks that want to learn more about Pentax specific strobist style shooting. If you all think it is a bad idea to have that and say the word and I will remove the link here. I just wanted to register the name while it was still available. I really think it can only help.

Think of it as Legalized Public Flashing.

Strobist: Welcome to Strobist.
