Shooting in New Orleans

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'll be in NO for the next 3 days looking for some interesting things to shoot. Bourbon St is my first obvious stop, but I'm clueless about anything else. I've seen some nice Church buildings in the area, so I might snoop around those.
Anyone have some good suggestions?

There is a tour of nearby plantation homes - assuming the hurricane didn't blow them away - that is interesting. Also, although a bit morbid, the cemeteries are neat. Due to the low level of the land, most (maybe all) graves are above ground and there are some very unique crypts.

Some other places to venture would be Jackson Square in the morning (followed by beignets and coffee at Cafe Dumond), early morning along the Mississippi off Jackson Square, Royal St. and the side streets in the French Quarter, Fort Jackson (if open - probably isn't) and their antebellum homes, and for Katrina-esque remnants and reminders the Lower 9th - 9th Ward - Gentilly - Chalmette.

Enjoy, and go to Patty O's for a Hurricane.

Actually, the guy that gave a ride here (who is a resident) suggested the same thing. Maybe I should heed the advice... Today I found a nice above ground cemetary to shoot around in, got some street level shots on Bourbon St (horse drawn carraiges, ect.), and took a few down by the river. Tomorrow, I think I'll see about heading to the Plantations, and see what that's all about.

Keep 'em coming, I still have 1.5 days left!

BTW- I went and got that Hurricane, Bactman. Felt strange drinking something by the same name that just about ruined this place not too long ago... You'd think more people would make the same connection, but it's just a drink, I guess.

I spent 8 months in NOLA after Katrina, so drinking a Hurricane felt a bit odd. Don't have more than one or you may get lost in your hotel whence the sugar wears off (trust me on this).

One other thought would be the "Pirate Bar" off Jackson Square for some Absinthe.

Take the streetcar down St. Charles ave., and take one out to city park. It's cheap and you'll see a lot.Try going to the Lafayette No.1 Cemetery in the Garden District. There's some cool old houses in the Garden district too. Roam the Quarter. Be careful wherever you go. Keep an eye on your camera! Lots to photograph but there's way too much crime. Don't want to spook you but some claim Baghdad is safer. Use common sense. I lived there for 20 years.

On the last day, I took the streetcar as suggested ($3 roundtrip, can't beat that!). I went to the campuses of Loyola and Tulane Colleges at night with my fastest lenses (Sigma 14 and FA 50), but I'm waiting on the film to come back- B&W negs can't be done locally. Working through the rest of the digital stuff as I type this... Link when I'm done.

maybe move to the Photo Trips and Travel Planning forum

You're right, it is not quite the right place.

Adam at my request made a sub forum for Photo trips and travel planning, and this hopefully will get moved there.

I have'nt been to NO in 15 years, so I can't offer a lot of what to see in 3 days, but there are lots of opportunities for a camera.

Ah, I see it now! At first I was like subforum? I don't see it. Looked a little closer, and there it was under Genreal Talk. This definitely belonged there, but unfortunately this thread has already run it's course for me. Maybe It would help others, but I already have my pictures. I'll still post a few of my favorite shots from the trip for you guys, of course.

Miniman, even if the thread has run it's course it will be useful to have it moved to the right subforum. If you want to get a thread moved, just click on the flag in the bottom left corner of the post and you will get a box to fill out your request.

Here's 2 shots I converted to B&W.

A statue in the St Peter's Cemetary off Rampart:

A steamboat on the Mississippi:

Thanks to all who contributed! If any of the film shots turn out, I'll scan and post those as well.
