Stepped into a dark side (for one day only)

On Saturday I have picked up a package deal that included some Canon gear. The camera is 10S back from the film days. It had 20-35mm lens mounted on it. Well, I figured that since it is about 8 years when I used film, why not to shoot one roll. Picked B/W from local pharmacy and went out to the local fair and park with only 24 exposures available (how that compares to 200 that's available on my Pentax DSLR). So I found myself carefully framing each shot, paying attention to exposure settings, etc. So much more fun than shooting with DSLR.

Here is some funny facts:

1. I had to run after my two year old to take the "perfect" shot. Normally I would take 10 pictures and then delete 9. So I got a good exercise.

2. After I took a picture, my son would approach me and ask if I could show it to him. What was his surprise when he noticed that there is no screen on the back of the camera.

3. At the local car show, another photographer approached me and looked at my camera which had big and thick strap with word Canon on it (in red). Looked briefly at the camera and said that I have higher model than his. That was about it, then we spent most of the time talking about the cars.

4. And the best of all: I have to wait till Wednesday for the pictures to be processed

So in few days I will try to post some pictures. Hopefully I did put the film in correctly

I'm still on the Dark Side today

Hooray for film! Fridges full of film!

My K10D is away being serviced right now, so I'm using B&W film too. Trying to finish off a roll of HP5 in my "dark" (black) Canon T90 right now. Tempted to use my Zenit E next... Or maybe Pentax SL... So many choices, not enough film!

A curious modern phenomenon. Makes me feel old. I expect your son can get a good education about how "old" cameras work from you, but I am not so hopeful about many of today's young children. How many of them will grow up without knowing the excitement of opening that packet of prints - or the magic of pulling their roll of dripping wet negatives from the tank?
I exaggerate a little, but not without sighing...

Heh... I am taking a week off tomorrow to go play in Seattle (well, technically going for my mom's 70th Bday), and planning to go out with my brother and his bagful of older Canon film gear. I'm going to try and convince him to go digital and go Pentax, though I hope to have some nice pics to show when I get back. Some saltwater (weekend on the beach), maybe some fishing, some freshwater, some mountains, we'll see what we get into. Fun times!

I have to try my hardest to NOT look at the back of my film cams after a shot!

I've done it a few times...good thing no one was paying attention
