Pentax rebate WARNING -- DA70

I just learned my rebate for the DA70 was rejected because "the UPC code did not match any qualifying codes." Looking carefully at the form provided by Pentax, the error is plain to see. Pentax printed a qualifying UPC code of only 11 digits on the form, when all UPC codes should have 12. It is their error.

BUT -- you will have to fight the rebate company to get your rebate on the DA70. Start by calling the rebate company to see if your submission has been rejected. In my case, I had one which qualified and one was rejected. However, nothing in my email or communications from them mentioned the rejected product. In fact, when I called and specifically asked for a document that said my lens had be rejected, they refused!

Once you find out your DA70 has been rejected, call Pentax in Colorado and talk to the customer support person. They will hand you to another person who will ask you to fax in a copy of the box where you cut out the UPC. All of this for a lousy $50 which should have been sent without issue.

I don't know for sure how this process ends. I'm at the last step now, where I have sent in my fax and I'm waiting to hear from the rebate company. Bottom line: Rebates suck. Think very hard before buying any product with a rebate because the people selling the product are counting on you not getting your rebate, for whatever reason.

I had to fight tooth and nail with the Rebate Co on the rebate for my 10~17 FE zoom. Finally had to get a friend of a friend inside Pentax to help. He came through and I finally got the money.
The rebate on the 50~200 zoom was without a hitch other than taking about 12 weeks!
They sure tend to leave a bad taste in your mouth, no matter who is doing the rebate!

If you contact the costumer service center in Golden, CO they will make good on your rebate.

Simply have your information available at the time of your call and they will take care of the rest. Sleep easy. They are working for you at Pentax...which means they are working for themselves. Which is a good thing

I agree with scq -- I had an issue with delayed shipping on my FA 50mm. I contacted Pentax and the rebate center and they said to include a note about the issue. I did so and the rebate was processed (the only hitch was they couldn't figure out the dates on the receipt so I had to send in another copy of that).
