help identifying lens...

I just recently went to a local camera convention and picked up a lens that I was told was a Pentax lens... I did not have my camera on me so I took the man's word and bought the lens... I get home and try to put it on and it turned out not to fit...

I want to find out what kind of lens it is so I can properly get rid of it. I put the serial number on google and got no results... Would anybody be able to help me out?

Info on lens:
50mm 1:1.7 Yashica Made in Japan Yashica Lens ML
A20000722

(Just a FYI, it was $15 so I couldn't resist at that price...)

Most probably a lens for their line of rangefinders...measure the thread diameter if its 37mm instead of 42mm then its a rangefinder lens. Hope this helps.

Lens originally sold with Yashica FX-1 and FX-2 cameras. While several Yashica cameras did use a Pentax lens mount (likely why you were told this was a Pentax lens), these two cameras used a proprietary Yashica mount.

Yashica cameras used M42 lenses before they began using the Contax/Yashica bayonet mount, which is what you have. Also how the dealer got confused.

Don't have a Yashica at the moment, so no use to me. Search the internet for a Yashica forum and try posting an ad there. Might be able to turn a profit (get more than $15) from someone with a Yashica camera and a need for lens like this.
