This past summer I took on the challenge of researching my father's family history. There were a few motivating factors to get me interested in genealogy which were being elected to be in charge of our very old family reunion, and organizing photos of this particular side of the family that was left by my grandmother. Luckily for me, out of the hundreds of photos my grandmother kept, most were identified on the back of who the person(s) was in the photo. The oldest photo I have came across is of my great great grandparents. It is their wedding portrait from 1886.
They both came from Skåne county in Sweden. She was from the town of Hästveda and he was from Östra Vram. He was a taylor and came to America starting up his own business. The list goes on with what I have found and it really makes me appreciate not only the photos my grandmother collected but just the photos themselves lasting this long.
So what is your oldest family photo that was passed down to you? Did it motivate you to learn more about your family history?
