That's one big reason I went with the tamron, because it is currently shipping.
The other reasons are that although the sigma does have higher resolution, the tamron has more uniform sharpness across the lens, and less chromatic abberation, especially when talking baout out of focus portions of the image. On APS-C at least, which is what matters to me. From the looks of sample pictures, it looks like the tamron should respond better to fixing it's shortcomings in post. At least in canon and nikon mounts.
Also, ignore the charts and graphs on various sites, and check out the actual pictures taken with them. Especially those that haven't been reduced.
It's pretty clear from what I have seen that the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II is not nearly as capable a lens as the previous non HSM, non macro version. I'd take the previous gen sigma over both of them in a heartbeat, but finding one is a bit hard.
Availability is a strong argument. |
