Item Description
Vivitar Series 1 28-105mm f2.8-3.8 Macro Focusing Zoom

67mm filter size, 630g, KA mount

I read somewhere that this was a pretty good lens. I bought it on eBay when I was looking for a midrange zoom, but after getting three midrange zooms I never use them. It's made by Cosina, manual focus, one touch zoom/focus, with the A position on the aperture ring. It had a Ricoh pin, which I removed and taped to the lens cap. If you want I'll reinstall it.

I've only used it a couple of times so I don't know much about IQ. Colors are definitely not Pentax. Here are two shots, the left with the Vivitar, the right with a Pentax FA 28-105mm f4-5.6. Both lenses are at 28mm. The shots are taken with auto white balance. With a custom white balance, the photos look much closer, close enough for me. In JPG, using a tool to remove color cast works too.

Close focus works at the 28mm end. The lens is marked with a minimum distance of 0.6 feet, which is about an inch from the front element. I don't know its magnification specs. I took this photo of a quarter, almost as close as I could get:

Maybe 1:4? Not spectacular but definitely useful.

Glass is clear, fungus-free, and unscratched. Aperture is snappy and oil-free. The A position works properly. Focus and zooming action are smooth. I hate classifying condition with a single word; I picked "excellent" anyway.

I used the AF version of this lens on the Minolta system. This lens is usually marketed as part of a "budget" line, but I was very pleased with the quality of it, all things considered. I'm a bit interested in picking this lens up myself
