PowerGenix NiZn rechargeable AA batteries: finally, some cells worth buying -- Engadget

They run at a slightly higher voltage which might be compatible with some devices, but as I found out early this week it burns out Pentax flashes. My AF360 wasn't on for more than a second with these batteries before it blew the charging circuitry.

I am going back and forth with the company on what products might be compatible with their batteries. They are hopefully replacing the flash as well, so good on their part.

Just wanted to let you guys know

I picked up a Vivitar 550 FD N flash cheap and wanted to use it with my wireless flash triggers.

I cleaned corrosion from the battery contacts and it fired away on the test button. I attached my trigger and nothing. I shorted the side contact with the center contact and it fires, so why won't it fire on the trigger or my k20 and k10 (on manual). Any ideas?

I did try covering the other contacts with tape and just leaving the center one in case the others were shorting out. The wireless triggers only have a center contact.

Any help would be appreciated.'

I was having problems trying to decide which tilt/swivel flash to get for my K7.

I decided to wait and started purchasing stuff for a small mobile light weight strobist studio instead. This lead me to buy the Nikon SB-28 flash for off-shoe usage.

It arrived today and I was amazed at how fantastic this flash is in auto-mode on the K7 shoe. Great exposure and so easy to use. Relatively compact with a lot of power.

With this is my back, I am not sure I will need a p-ttl flash after all !!

My first test shot 2 minutes after it arrived:

I paid approx. $90 for it and it is worth much more than that to me :)

SB-28 is hereby highly recommended for use on Pentax cameras...

I'm thinking of getting a polarizing filter. Right now I only have 18-55 II and 50-200 lenses. Both use 52mm filters. Polarizing filters seem very expensive. Here in Canada, 52mm circular polarizing filters seem to cost around $100. What would be a reasonable price to pay for a polarizing filter. Any recommendations?

I might get a better walkaround zoom sometime in the future, but i'm not sure when. I would probably get either the 16-45 or tamron 17-50 (or something similar). I think both of these lenses take 67mm filters. Would it be better to get a larger filter and use step-up rings or just to get a smaller filter to fit my curent lenses as I probably won't be getting either of these for about a year.

I bought my K20 about a year ago and along with it a cheap class 1, 8gb sd card. I never had any trouble with it and never lost a photo. A couple of months ago I saw a sale at a national camera chain for an Acumen class 6, 8gb card. I thought I should have a spare so why not upgrade and see what a higher end card can do. At first it seemed fine, but then some strange things started to happen. I would take a photo and then try and bring it up and there would be nothing there. It seemed to show a place for the photo but nothing else. I reformatted it and tried again and it would be fine. Today, at a social event I took a lot of photo's. I didn't get a chance to look at them and didn't think about it so I just kept taking more. I ended up near a river with patches of ice on it as it flowed past. Again I took more photo's but with family and two dogs along there was no time to look at them on the display. When I returned home I fired up Lightroom to download but there were no photo's. I tried to take a picture to see if anything would record and and all worked fine until I used the display to look and there would be nothing to display. I returned the cheap sd card to the camera and the K20 works fine again. So much for the high end card. Has this happened to others? Are there limits to the kinds of cards such as class 1 or class 6 that the K20 can reliably read and write to? :(

Anyway to reset the AF-540FGZ? In P-TTL (or any mode for that matter), auto zoom is stuck at 16mm (and it is flashing). No way to change it. When this flash works, it is awesome, but I have had too many issues...
